Biancone, who completes both games with Olympiakos B’
Julian Biancone is starting to gain momentum, he played in two Olympiacos B games and hopes to help the first team in the future.
One of the requirements for Diego Martinez is the balance between attack and defense. Olympiakos’ attacking performances do not resemble their defensive performances and the Spanish coach wants to find the “recipe” that will produce the expected results.
In the Red-Whites’ last game, against Backa Topola in Serbia (2-2), Doe was placed in central defense together with Retso because Nicolas Freire was injured.
The Argentine centre-back is now medically fine and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, will return to Martinez’s plans for the derby with Panathinaikos (October 22, 7:30 p.m.).
Biancone steps on the gas to help
Retsos and Freire have so far played the most minutes in central defense, followed by Doi and Porosso in the rotation. The last transfer signing from Olympiakos was Julian Biancone, who will soon claim this spot.
Biancone prepares to achieve the desired readiness. The 23-year-old French defender, who stands 1.87m tall, can help at centre-back, a position the Reds appear to need, but also at right-back.
His talent is undeniable and if he gets into a competitive rhythm, he can provide useful information to the Olympiakos defense and contribute to the balance that Martinez is seeking.
The first rehearsal with the Olympiacos second team
Biancone, who is recovering from a serious injury last season, received playing time for Olympiakos B’s second team. He played 60 minutes in the Red-Whites’ 2-3 loss to Athens Kallithea and 86 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Ionikos.
In Saturday’s (10/13) game against Nicaea, he was sent off with a second yellow card for arguing with Fatiga after a dangerous cross from Iglesias. The French defender showed dynamism, that he is not soft, but also a kind of connection with his team, even if he only plays for the red and whites for a short time.
In pure competitive play, Biancone played as a right central defender in both games, with Petros Bagaliani at his side. The 23-year-old Frenchman promoted the circulation of his team and was precise and cool with his transfers.
There were several times where he was strong in coverage and exploited his body, while in these two games he occasionally tried to take action by carrying the ball to further his team’s play. Biancone seems to be able to handle the ball well at his feet and therefore plays confidently as both a full-back and a stopper.
The sample is small, as is the level of difficulty, but Biancone shows elements that could help the Red-Whites’ first team in the future. However, Olympiacos needs help in defense and the French defender can provide it.
