Super League 2: “We send an SOS to find resources, otherwise we will be banned”
Super League 2 has announced that its members will send an SOS over a lack of revenue while the possibility of the league being suspended remains open.
Developments in Super League 2 are rapid. In its announcement, the organizer explains that due to weakness and lack of resources, the possibility of suspending the championship is open.
The out-of-court decision was confirmed on ERT, while the league president will request a meeting with the sports minister, Mr. Vroutsis.
The announcement about Super League 2:
“The members of Super League 2 during today’s meeting expressed an SOS statement in a year when the league has no income from any source and authorized the management to exhaust all means to raise funds or face suspension the league due to powerlessness.”
After exhausting all possible means to find a solution regarding the television rights, he found that ERT SA has clearly breached the contract of 10/19/22 with SL2 and is feignedly refusing to pay overdue debts of 600,000 euros plus VAT, which represent accrued claims. For this reason, we will appeal judicially and competently.
In addition, the Board has decided to give ERT SA a deadline of 10 days to fulfill its contractual obligation, as it violates a mandatory legal regulation (Article 25 N4809/2021) which provides that contracts for the exclusive centralized management of television rights have a minimum term of three years. Otherwise, due to ERT’s fault, he will terminate the above-mentioned contract and at the same time demand compensation for any positive and consequential damages and loss of profits as well as for the deterioration in the reputation of the championship for which he is responsible.
The Board authorized the President of SL2, Mr. Petros Martsoukos, to request a meeting with the Minister of Sports, Mr. Vroutsis, to resolve the above issue of the television contract, which is also of central importance to our members as the money arising from the taxation of gambling players.
