PSAPP: “There are talents and opportunities in Greece that are not being used”
PSAPP supports the proposal to establish a minimum number of players in our country’s eleven professional teams who will have the right to participate in our national teams.
PSAPP, which feels responsible for the development of Greek football, supports the above proposal to introduce a minimum number of players in our country’s eleven professional teams, who will have the right to participate in our national teams (4 for Super League Interwetten and 7 for the Super League 2).
The reason is that he believes that this is the only way that can bring the desired result for a better future in our country’s football.
Also, in the past, the top places of our teams in European competitions were achieved with the participation of 8, 9 and in many cases even 10 football players in the 11th, who retained the right to participate in our national teams.
As an indication, it is worth mentioning that in the period that officially ends in a few days (30.6.), 366 players played in the regular season of the first division, of which 224 were not eligible for our national teams Unlike at the beginning of 2000, i.e the time laying the foundations for the 2004 epic, where the situation was completely different.
More precisely, in the 2003/04 season, a few months before Greece reached the top of Europe, 436 football players played in the first category championship and 326 had the right to participate in our national teams.
The above finding clearly proves that in the greatest successes of Greek football – apart from great footballers – there have been the corresponding bases which, unfortunately, are constantly being demolished year after year.
In fact, the 2021/22 season is the odds-worst of the new millennium as only 38.8% of the players who played in the Super League 1 regular season had the right to participate in our national teams!
Unfortunately, the conditions that prevail in Greek football in recent years have brought dozens of footballers abroad who have the right to take part in our national teams, where they have actually achieved great things.
In the current season alone, 15 of them have won at least one title with the playing team, which clearly shows that there is a lot of talent and huge potential in our country, which, unfortunately, for various reasons is not used.
We are sure that all institutions accept the specific problem and if the will is there, despite all the legal obstacles that may arise, a solution can be found that will advance the development of Greek football. Also, PSAPP has repeatedly proved that it is available to all social partners and a helper in all efforts to improve the conditions of the Greek football player and Greek football in general.
Below we present the results of the investigations carried out by our association (they concern the regular duration of each season in the championship of the first category and lie in the number of players who played in it and whether they were eligible to participate or not in ours national teams).
