PFC President: “Shevchenko really wanted to be the coach of the Polish national team”
The President of the Polish Football Union, Cezary Kulesha, talked about the fact that Andriy Shevchenko could become the coach of the Polish national team at the beginning of 2022.
“There were a lot of candidates we thought about, but then the circle was reduced. We talked to Shevchenko. The problem was that although he no longer works with the team, the club did not want to terminate the contract with him ahead of schedule. The American owners of Genoa did not want to pay compensation – it is easier for them to pay the monthly salary of the coach.
“Andrew really wanted to be the coach of the Polish national team. His lawyers worked on this issue, but nothing came of it,” he said.
Cheslav Mikhnevich became a mentor, leading the team to the 2022 World Cup.
Recently, Shevchenko still agreed to terminate the contract with the club.
