Scaloni on Messi: ‘He’s like Federer, I don’t know if there will ever be someone like him’

Lionel Scaloni compared Lionel Messi to Roger Federer in his comments after the Argentine’s crescendo against Jamaica, stressing that if he were a sports fan he would pay a ticket to admire him from the stands.

Even being on the bench for the first 55 minutes of the game wasn’t enough to save Jamaica from the wild whims of Lionel Messi, who has been smitten with the Argentine superstar since the start of this season and confirmed it in the last Argentina’s international friendly, scoring a brace in minutes.

Pulga now has 90 goals for the Albiceleste and is the third-top goalscorer in the history of international football. Lionel Scaloni praised him at the end of the game, comparing him to tennis legend Roger Federer.

“I enjoy him as much as you do. He’s like Federer. He retired and what happened when he retired? Everyone thought, ‘He won’t be here anymore, he won’t play anymore.’

How many of us would love to see Federer play tennis? Because it would be really cool to see him play. The same and more applies to Messi because football is a sport that has a larger audience.

So let’s enjoy it. Everyone enjoys it no matter what country they are in. It’s nice to see him.” stressed the Argentina coach (he agreed to sign a new contract until 2026), adding meaningfully:

“I have the opportunity to coach him, but if I were a fan I would pay a ticket to see him and I would pay to buy his shirt.

Now all that remains is to enjoy it because I don’t know if anyone else will be able to repeat what Messi did. So we just enjoy it and nothing else.”
