After the final victory against Brazil in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni surprised fans by hinting that he could leave the national team soon, despite having a contract until mid-2026.
It was reported that the national team coach was tired of communicating with representatives of the Argentine Football Federation. First, they spent too long negotiating a new contract and now haven’t paid bonuses to the players and coaching staff for winning the 2022 World Cup.
Also, Argentine media talk about a “power conflict” between Lionel Messi and Scaloni, but both deny this.
Scaloni has gained huge popularity among fans because the team won the Copa America before the 2022 World Cup and is currently a confident leader in the 2026 World Cup qualifying group.
Even after the victorious World Cup, his mentor made it clear that he was tired of the last few stressful years.
“I just want to go home. It was a difficult time, I want to leave. I haven’t seen my family for a long time,” said Scaloni, who lives in Spain.
The association hopes Scaloni will not leave before the 2024 Copa America, which will be held in the USA in the summer.
