The president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Fernando Gomes, spoke about the decision to submit a joint application to hold the 2030 World Championship in Spain’s Ukraine.

“For all of us, it is an honor to add Ukraine to the application. After the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, Portugal and our federation were part of the Ukrainian homeland acceptance program.

We are opening the door to football to those who need it most right now. For those who include Ukraine in the application, it may be unqualified, but for me the whole solution is correct.
We cannot be shy about the situation in Ukraine. Ukraine is not in our memory,” Gomes said in an interview with Marca.

As the British newspaper The Times said, Ukraine can only host matches in the world championship group.
