England will be without their top right-back ahead of the 2022 World Cup after Rhys James was out for around eight weeks, Chelsea have announced.

THE Rhys James Gareth Southgate will not be available for England’s 2022 World Cup squad. The England right-back was examined by a specialist in London after suffering a knee injury against AC Milan and Chelsea announced they would be out for eight weeks.

The 22-year-old international is being treated conservatively and will not have surgery but will miss the Qatar tournament and is expected to be back in action for the Premier League’s Boxing Day on December 26.

Forced to make plans without the top right-back at his disposal, Southgate is turning to options like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker, despite using the latter in the stopper position.
