Cameroon 1-0 Brazil: Farewell victory for the Untamed Lions, Abubakar scoring and sent off
Vincent Aboubakar scored 90+2′ in Cameroon’s victory and was sent off smiling as he took off his jersey in celebration. The Seleção were better for most of the game, but in the final the indomitable lions took the win.
Brazil had qualified for the “16” of the 2022 World Cup. They lost 1-0 in the game against Cameroon, but that didn’t deprive them of first place in the group. The scorer of Cameroon’s golden goal was Vincent Aboubakar at 90+2, sending the ball in with a superb header at 90+2 from a cross from the right. In the round of 16, the opponent of the Seleção is South Korea.
Tite made many substitutions, the Seleção weren’t on the gas but dominated throughout the game and had chances to score. As many chances as they found the net, Davies Epasi was there and kept a clean sheet for his team.
Cameroon, on the other hand, had chances to score more, the most notable of which was Buemo’s header at 45+3, but Ederson pulled away with a nice intervention. It should be noted that this was the first attempt Brazil conceded on target at the tournament.
The match
Brazil was superior in the first half without stepping on the gas. Tite changed almost the entire lineup to rest his key players for the knockout stages.
The Seleção’s first good moment came in the 14th minute. Martinelli went behind the defense and sent the ball towards goal with a nice header, but Epasi cleared with a nice intervention.
The Brazilians continued to threaten without time pressure, but Epasi intervened where necessary. In the 38th minute, Anthony sent the ball in the direction of the goal with a placekick, but Epasi stopped him. At 45+2′ the former OFI goalkeeper also stopped Martinelli while he was eliminated a minute after Rodrigo’s shot.
Cameroon missed a unique scoring opportunity in injury time in the first half. Aboubakar sent in a superb cross from the right and Ebuemo’s header forced a spectacular save from Ederson.
In the second half, the game went at the same pace. Brazil was superior and once again had the lion’s share of the last few tries. Vincent Aboubakar was the first to threaten a nice flick, but the ball went wide.
The Seleção used their chances in the 53rd minute. Martinelli, Militao and Anthony threatened within three minutes (56-57-58) but Epassi stopped him with a subtle intervention.
From the 60th minute, the pace of the game slowed down due to the changes. Endham tried his foot from long range but Ederson controlled the ball and stopped it.
In the final of the game, the pace of the game was slow. Cameroon found the goal they had hoped for in stoppage time through Vincent Aboubakar.
