Van Basten and Van der Vaart screamed as Holland beat USA 2-0: ‘Two goals and the rest is crying’

Marco van Basten and Raphael van der Faart scathingly criticized the football of the Dutch national team against the USA in the first half, despite the 2-0 lead of the “Oranie”.

Two Dutch legends, Marco van Basten and Raphael van der Vaart, unleashed harsh criticism at halftime in the “Oranie” game against USA, despite leading 2-0 for stage 16 of the World Cup in 2022.

The two players, who have been linked with the national team’s last two major runs, winning Euro 1988 and 3rd place at the 2010 World Cup respectively, were guests of the public TV channel NOS.

Van Basten started with kind words for the Memphis Debay goal but stopped there. “The 1-0 was total football and the best attack of the tournament so far,” said the 58-year-old, who was a federal technician from 2004 to 2008.

He then launched an attack on his home country’s national team football: “Two great goals. The rest is to cry. As a football fan, I wonder. What do I see? Zero initiative. Is there anything to be proud of? If we win the World Cup, everyone will be happy. But I don’t know , can I stand it much longer (he means the Holland game). We all started playing football because we had fun, right? I don’t think these players enjoy it.”

Van der Vaart went into overdrive, claiming that Dutch football doesn’t live up to Frankie de Jong’s virtues: “I think he’d rather be in his hotel room right now. He’d like to go to Van Gaal and say, ‘Can you take me out, please?'”
