Mbappe: ‘I came here to win the World Cup, this is the tournament of my dreams’
Kylian Mbappe is three games away from making history by winning two World Cups before turning 24 and his statements after the game against Poland made it clear that lifting the trophy is his only goal.
France quickly defeated Poland with a 3-1 win in the World Cup Round of 16 and the catalyst for that win was none other than Kylian Mbappe.
The 23-year-old striker scored two stunning second-half goals against Poland to take his tally to 5 at the World Cup in Qatar and has 9 in World Cup finals in total, the same tally as 35-year-old Lionel Messi and a 37-year-old Ronaldo.
“To be honest, the only goal for me is to win the world championship. At the moment the most important thing for me is to win the quarter-finals. That’s what I dream of.”
The only thing I dream about is the next game. That’s why I came here. I came to win the World Cup, I didn’t come to win the Ballon d’Or or the Golden Boot.
If I can do that, I’ll be happy, of course, but that’s not why I’m here. I’m here to help the French national team win.
It’s my dream event, I’ve been preparing competitively and physically for it all season.” Kylian Mbappe pointed this out in his post-match press conference, with Didier Deschamps adding meaningfully:
“Kilian didn’t play his best game against Poland. He knows it himself…”.
