Pepe breaks record and beat Ronaldo
On Tuesday, December 6, the 1/8 final match of the 2022 World Cup, where the Portuguese and Swiss national teams meet, is played. In the 33rd minute, 39-year-old Pepe doubled Portugal’s advantage with a cross from a corner (4:1, 2nd half starts).
Pepe set a World Cup playoff record by scoring against Switzerland. He was the oldest goalscorer in playoff games at the World Cup. Today Pepe is 39 years old and 283 days old. He was ahead of Cameroonian Roger Mill, who scored in 1990 at the age of 38.
He surpassed the result of 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, who also scored in the 2022 World Cup, becoming the oldest goal scorer in Portugal’s World Cup history.
