Modric: “The biggest game of the World Cup is ahead of us, Brazil are always the favourites”
Brazil are favorites against Croatia and one of the favorites to win the cup, according to Luka Modric, who however expressed his belief that he and his team-mates can create an upset.
Four years ago Croatia were close to the prestigious World Cup in the final against France (lost 4-2), but now they have to work much harder to reach the exact same place.
And that’s because they have to eliminate Brazil in the quarter-finals, in the game between them scheduled for Friday afternoon (12/09) while they knock out the five-time world champion in case they become the winner of the pair Holland – see Argentina.
“We achieved something great by reaching the quarter-finals, but we still want more. The most important game of the tournament awaits us against one of the favorites to win the title.” stressed Luka Modric at a press conference on Thursday (08.12.), where the iconic Croatian leader added:
“Brazil are always favourites, but like in every game we have to do our best. That’s the only way we have a chance of qualifying. We have our strengths and we believe in ourselves.”
I’ve played against Brazil several times but we haven’t managed to beat them yet. I hope that will change. Brazil have phenomenal players in every position.
We have to be dynamic, run and not let them play. Brazil and Argentina are the best teams in the world with a lot of good players.
I like to see them and it’s a pleasure to play against teams like that, we’ve proven many times that the favorites don’t always win.”
