Enrique: “I’m sorry I couldn’t help more, what the team needs is support”
Luis Enrique wanted to say goodbye to Spain’s players and fans after leaving the bench while also asking for support for his successor Luis de la Fuente.
Less than 48 hours have passed since Spain were banned from the World Cup and the change in technical lead is now a fact, with Luis Enrique a thing of the past and Luis de la Fuente succeeding him as Furia Rocha’s new national coach.
For his part, Enrique wanted to come full circle with the national team in his own special way, with the ex-Barcelona coach saying goodbye to all his partners through a post on his official social media account, asking for support for his successor to succeed his mission.
“On behalf of myself and all the staff: It all started 4 years ago and how quickly time has passed. I can only be absolutely grateful to the one who hired me twice (the president of the Spanish federation Rubiales and the sporting director Molina). .To all the staff of the Spanish federation with whom we have shared such experiences.
Of course, to the players who behaved in an exemplary manner and stayed true to our idea. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you more. I also thank those who have offered (doctors, physiotherapists, bus drivers, security guards, those responsible for audiovisual material and transport, the team manager, nutritionists, etc.) who work tirelessly to help the players and staff with whatever we need.
It was very special to be a part of all of this. Last but not least, thank you to our fans who have supported us in every moment, especially in the most difficult ones. It’s time to say goodbye and in these cases there is just a little thought.
What the team needs is SUPPORT, literally, to help Luis de la Fuente achieve what he wants! Let’s go to Spain! Forever. Many Thanks. Luis Enrique”he said in his post.
