Qatar World Cup workers battled football legends and referee Infantino
A unique experience was shared by 24 workers working on Qatar’s construction sites for the 2022 World Cup as they played football with veteran legends. Referee role for Gianni Infantino.
There has been no action at the 2022 World Cup for the last two days and FIFA took the opportunity to offer 24 workers working in Qatar to run the tournament a once in a lifetime experience as they competed against 24 football and FIFA -Legends competed.
The workers have been involved in projects that included the eight state-of-the-art stadiums and 42 training pitches, and were chosen for their passion for football, their involvement in community football programs and their past participation in the Workers’ Cup – an annual tournament held from Qatar Football Federation for all people working in the country.
In terms of football legends, Marco Materazzi, Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Yuri Djorkaev, Clarence Seedorf and Alessandro Del Piero, among others, attended. The two teams played 30-minute games twice and FIFA President Gianni Infantino was the referee.
John Terry said, among other things, immediately after the match: “EIt’s a great idea for FIFA to give back to some of the workers who have put so much hard work into these amazing stadiums. Opening up the seats and letting them see it for free was also fantastic. It was wonderful for them to come and play with us, but also for us to meet them. As an ex-footballer, it’s always nice to experience moments like this“.
