Harry Maguire: “France referee was very bad at decision making”
England defender Harry Maguire has criticized Brazilian referee Wilton Sampaio, who lost 1-2 against France in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final match.
“I think the referee was very bad at making decisions throughout the match. We players come to the press all the time, we are criticized, so it would be nice to see the referee come here and say how did he do in this match. In the first half, there were 5-6 unrecorded fouls by the French team.
He didn’t want to put a penalty in the second half at first. And the foul on Bukayo Saka was a clear foul that led to the first French goal. These are the most important moments, the most important decisions. And it is expected from the referee that these decisions are correct. “Unfortunately, there is no such decision today,” said Maguire.
