World Cup
An unlikely coincidence makes the Moroccans world champions because of Chelsea
A crazy scenario makes the Moroccan national team world champions based on the shirt numbers chosen by Chelsea players who won the World Cup.
Morocco had a fairytale run at the 2022 World Cup as they managed to beat powerhouses like Spain, Portugal and Belgium in Qatar (they also drew 0-0 with fellow semi-finalists Croatia) and become the first African country to win “4 ” in the history of the institution.
Against France, he will fight for his chances to play against Lionel Messi’s side in the grand final. Their ally in this appears to be a ‘tradition’ built by Chelsea at recent World Cups.
In 2014, Germany, with Andre Schurrle in its ranks, conquered the world at the top of Brazil. The German midfielder was then playing for Chelsea and wore shirt number ’14’, the same number as in the year of the World Cup title.
Four years later, France celebrated the world championship title. Didier Deschamps had Olivier Giroud with him. The current AC Milan striker made the move from east to west London in January 2018 when he joined Chelsea from Arsenal. In “Blue” he wore the jersey with the number “18”. And that has the same number as the year the current world champion won the world championship.
Today, the player who wears the ’22’ at Chelsea, albeit with limited playing time, is Hakim Zigies, who has returned to his national team after a long ‘hiatus’. Morocco has reached “4” and conquers it due to this particular coincidence. It remains to be seen if this particular crazy “phenomenon” is confirmed.
