Patrice Evra: “Messi will no longer live in Maradona’s shadow”
Former French defender Patrice Evra praised Lionel Messi’s place in history after winning the 2022 World Cup:
“After winning the World Cup, Messi will no longer live in the shadow of Diego Armando Maradona. Argentine fans will never forget Maradona, but now Messi is the only one. For them, this is now the best player in the world.
I can’t say Messi is the best. I can’t say that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best. I want people to stop this discussion because everyone has their own opinion. All people are different, regardless of successes and victories.
Someone will call Messi the greatest for winning the World Cup, and someone will call Ronaldo the greatest for winning the Euro. It’s tough, but after winning the World Cup, Messi will be among the best players of all time in the eyes of the people because that’s the biggest prize.”
