Head referee of 2022 World Cup final: “Mbappe was so touched, I hugged him”
Chief referee of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final match held in Qatar Shimon Marciniak He described how he talked to the French players after the final whistle:
After the match, they thanked us for refereeing. I had a little talk with Hugo Lloris and said hello to Olivier Giroud, with whom I have always had a very good relationship. He said it was a tough match. Then I spoke to Mbappe, who was probably the most emotional.
After what had happened, he was clearly dissatisfied with the title of top scorer of the tournament. I congratulated him for his performance and said I was sorry for his loss. We hugged and I told him not to worry because he will win more trophies.
Note that on Sunday, December 18, the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar was played between the national teams of Argentina and France. The main time of the match ended with the score 2:2. Teams scored one goal each in extra time. As a result, the Argentines were more accurate in the penalty shootout – 4:2.
