Van Dijk: ‘I didn’t sleep for two days after the Argentina game’
His goal and Liverpool’s win over Aston Villa weren’t enough to make Virgil van Dijk erase Qatar from his memory entirely, with the Dutchman admitting he had dozed off two days after the Argentina game.
The World Cup in Qatar is a thing of the past and 10 days have passed since the grand final in Lusail, where Argentina beat France on penalties, but it is not easy to forget for the participants of the tournament, especially those who had to compete in KO.
Case in point is Virgil Van Dijk, who last Monday (26/12) celebrated Liverpool’s win over Aston Villa in the Premier League’s resumption, scoring the second goal for the Reds in the process, but has not yet managed the Netherlands’ elimination from Argentina in the “8” out of his head.
“I couldn’t sleep for two days after that game. You’re so close even though you’re 2-0 down.
“Unfortunately you miss an important shot (eg Emiliano Martinez saves the Liverpool stopper’s penalty) and it’s very bad, I’ve had a really difficult afternoon and evening.”stressed Van Dijk, adding that the days he spent with his family in the past few days helped him to get active again on a collective level.
