USA: Giovanni Reyna’s parents denounced Berhalter’s attacks on his wife by the 31-year-old

The investigation commissioned by the US soccer association into the behavior of its people at the expense of third parties develops into a soap opera.

On Tuesday, the selection of the national team, Gregor Belhalter, he admitted in a statement that he had assaulted his then-girlfriend and later (and to date) wife Rosalind, but both got over the incident. A day later, the mother of one of Berhalter’s US internationals, Giovanni Reyna, revealed in a lengthy statement that she had informed national team athletic director Ernie Stewart about what happened in 1991.

According to Daniele Reyna, she found out about the incident at the time because she was Rosalind’s roommate, teammate and friend. In fact, he added that he forgave Berhalter over time and they became family friends. Her action to expose the 31-year-old’s incident comes as Berhalter in a statement exposed Reyna, who was unhappy over the short time and had taken a public stand on it.

Reyna argued that Berhalter should forgive this teenage mistake, as happened to him, but denied she asked for his removal from the US national team’s technical lead.

Her husband Claudio Reyna, who was a teammate of Berhalter both in youth (coached by his father Miguel Reyna) and on the US national team, followed suit in a statement to the Athletic. Reina and father of the Dortmund midfielder is said to have been Berhalter’s best man at his wedding to Rosalind.

Berhalter’s contract expired on December 31 and it appears the US FA will not renew it, at least until the case is resolved.
