Lionel Messi wasn’t holding the original World Cup trophy in the photo that broke all records and became the most liked in the world of Instagram.
Unbelievable and yet true. The first photo that Lionel Messi uploaded to his official Instagram account after winning the world title with Argentina was with a fake trophy in his hands.
It is the most popular photo of all time, as it has amassed over 74,400,000 likes (a number that is constantly growing), and the post that takes the first place as the most liked in the history of Instagram.
However, in this iconic photo, the Argentine superstar is not holding the original World Cup trophy.
The official trophy was removed from the pitch by FIFA as usual after the initial celebrations and replaced with a replica trophy, although Albiceleste players were reportedly unaware of the trophy’s change.
According to the regulations The original trophy remains the property of FIFA and is secured at their headquarters in Zurich, except for ceremonial requirements such as the trophy round, FIFA World Cup main draws and the final handover.
