Richarlison: “Exclusion from the World Cup is a shock worse than losing a family member”
Elimination by Croatia in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup is something that still worries Richarlison as the Tottenham striker likens the shock he suffered against the Seleção to losing himself.
It’s been almost a month since the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and for some players the game that forced them to say goodbye to their dreams of winning an award at the tournament hasn’t left their minds.
Richarlison belongs to that category, with the Brazil international giving an interview to ESPN Brazil following Tottenham’s derby defeat in north London by Arsenal (0-2) and expressing his sadness at the recent painful slap accepting as a member of the Brazil national team was not concealed by Croatia in the “8”.
It was a shock worse than losing a family member. It was hard to recover. Even now I see videos of the game on social media and I get upset.
But we have to go on. I’m still young and I think I can still play at least one or two World Cups.” pointed out Richarlison to add:
“Our goal was to win, we went there to get the trophy. I’m definitely happy to score that goal against Serbia (it was voted best of the World Cup) but it wasn’t the goal that I wanted. Now.” It’s time to turn the page.”
