The president of the Polish Football Union, Kezary Kuletsa, tweeted Poland’s intention not to enter the playoffs with Russia for the World Cup finals due to the escalation of attacks in Ukraine. Lewandowski agrees with this decision.
Poland, through its football federation president Kezary Kulesta, has expressed its intention not to go down in the World Cup playoff game against Russia as Russia’s attacks in Ukraine escalate.
In fact, the Polish official emphasized in his post that Poland is in talks with Switzerland and the Czech Republic (they belong to the same four playoffs) to present a common position in FIFA to the detriment of the Russians.
It is recalled that the three federations originally expressed their wish not to travel to Russia (where the play-offs were originally scheduled) for security reasons.
“No more words, time to act. Because of the escalation Due to the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the Polish national team does not intend to play the playoff game against Russia. That’s the only right decision. We are in talks with the associations of Switzerland and the Czech Republic to present a common position in FIFA‘ said the President of the Football Union of Poland in his post.
Lewandowski agrees with this position
The leader of the Polish national team, Robert Lewandowski, reposted the Polish President’s tweet, stressing that he agrees with this decision and stressing that he cannot imagine playing with the Russian team while these dire events are taking place in happening in Ukraine that the Russian fans and the national team are not to blame at all.
“The right decision! I can’t imagine playing with the Russian national team in a situation where the armed attack on Ukraine is ongoing. Russian footballers and fans are not to blame for this, but we cannot pretend nothing is happening‘ he stated in his post.
