The Czech Republic will also not play against Russia in the World Cup qualifiers
After Sweden and Poland, the Czech association announced on Sunday (February 27) that it would not play Russia in the World Cup playoffs.
The Czech Football Association is the third in a row after Poland and Sweden to refuse to play Russia in the World Cup playoffs after the army invaded Ukraine.
With an official announcement on Sunday (February 27), the Czech Republic announced its decision and wanted to condemn the war.
The Extraordinary Executive Committee of the Czech Football Union, chaired by Petr Fusek, made the following decisions at its meeting on February 27:
“The decision was taken unanimously that under no circumstances will the Czech national team play with the Russian team for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The committee has ordered the opening of negotiations with UEFA and FIFA on our decision.” it says in its corresponding announcement by the Czech Football Association.
It is recalled that the three federations originally expressed their wish not to travel to Russia (where the play-offs were originally scheduled) for security reasons.
