World Cup 2026: FIFA sent the USA, Mexico and Canada straight into the final round
The FIFA Council has decided to give USA, Mexico and Canada a ticket to the finals for the 2026 World Cup, which they will jointly host.
FIFA announced a historic decision on Tuesday and for the first time raffled off three tickets for the finals of the first 48-team World Cup.
The USA, Mexico and Canada will co-host the 2026 tournament, and as the Council decided at its meeting, they will all be in the final stages of the event without taking part in the qualifiers.
World football’s governing body had left the question open for some time and had given no indication that it would proceed with such an option. Discussions spoke of a “ticket” that one of the three would take, with no clear route.
The expansion of the tournament to include 18 teams was favored by FIFA in order not to skimp on the extra tickets for the organizers, but announced that these places would be deducted from the total number due to CONCACAF (6 and 2/3).
