World Cup: FIFA confirm Poland’s unbeaten qualifier against Russia in play-offs
Poland have qualified for the final on their way to qualifying for the 2022 World Cup without a game following FIFA’s announced exclusion of Russia from the procedure. Scotland – Ukraine postponed to June.
FIFA announced their decisions for the 2022 World Cup draws, which will feature Russia and Ukraine, on Tuesday night.
The world governing body has excluded the Russians from the event while making way for the Ukrainians, who were unable to give up their fight against Scotland at the end of March due to the war raging in the country.
FIFA’s decision after talks with UEFA is to send Poland to the final without a game on their way to the playoffs. Robert Lewandowski’s team was drawn against Russia in the semifinals, a game that cannot be played. Now the Poles are waiting for the winner of the doubles Sweden – Czech Republic for a place in Qatar.
As for the national team of Ukraine, the semifinals of their way against Scotland will be postponed for the national teams “window” in June. Likewise, the final of the distance, which would normally take place on March 24 with the winner Wales v Austria, will be pushed back by the same ‘window’.
In addition, FIFA states in its information that it will announce the exact dates in time and look for other available dates in case the games cannot be held in June.
FIFA was informed a few hours after the Russian Football Union’s appeal to exclude the teams from international competitions.
