The 2030 World Cup and Greece’s possible co-candidacy with Saudi Arabia and Egypt were discussed at length during Takis Baltakou’s meeting with Gianni Infantino in Paris.

The President of the EPO, Takis Baltakos, was in Paris on Wednesday (22 March) where he met his FIFA counterpart Gianni Infantino.

The Federation confirms the appointment of the two men and emphasizes that their conversation was about general questions regarding the relations and cooperation of the World Federation with the Hellenic one.

Sportish wrote that it cannot be ruled out that FIFA and UEFA would also intervene in the appointment of a governing body in the EPO to deal with the current problems in Greek football.

In short: dissolution of the existing board and appointment of new people. Of course, this does not mean that Takis Baltakos is leaving the presidency of the EPO, but people who have the “green light” of the international confederations will be appointed.

The other topic that is being discussed extensively between the two men, according to information, is the 2030 World Cup, where Greece has been thinking about a joint application with Saudi Arabia and Egypt for some time.

Of course, it’s a topic that’s also being dealt with by the Greek government, so the information is dropping with the dropper about our country’s intentions and how it will ultimately move, but da Mr. Baltakos and Infantino talked about this topic for some time.

Mr Infantino is quite “warm” with the prospect of hosting the World Cup in Saudi Arabia and has a keen interest in filing the relevant dossier. “The 2022 World Cup was very successful and I know many people will return to Qatar in the future. So why not host the tournament in an Arab country again? he emphasized last December.
