Valery Karpin will remain on the bench for the Russian national team until the 2022 final, the country’s Football Association has announced, with the 53-year-old coach also holding the reins of Rostov.

Valery Carpin will take on a dual coaching role until the end of 2022 as he will also sit on the Russia national team alongside the Rostov bench, with the country’s Football Association announcing on Thursday (3/10) that the 53-year-old will remain national team coach until the end of the year .

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with the national team. I hope that our football can return to the international home team and take part in official matches very soon.

“I am grateful to the managers of the Russian Football Union and Rostov who, in the current situation, have agreed that I can combine work with the club and the national team.” emphasizes Carpin.

Former Russia national team player Karpin (17 goals in 72 appearances from 1992 to 2003) took over the post of national team coach on July 23, 2021 after the end of his commitments at Euro 2020, during his time with the Russians he had 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.

It is noted that the Russian invasion of Ukraine had direct (negative) consequences for Russian clubs and the Russian national team, since the European Football Union and the World Football Association made the decision to ban them from all international competitions until recently.
