Wales 2-1 Austria: Bale sent them through to the play-off final

Wales are flirting with their second World Cup appearance after qualifying for the play-off final after beating Austria 2-1 with two goals from Gareth Bale.

Gareth Bale remains a top player for one of the teams he plays for, the only one he does it for with all his heart. The 32-year-old superstar scored twice and led Wales to victory 2-1 v Austria in Cardiff (Ben Davis own goal had no effect), for the semi-finals of World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

The second participation of the country in the final stage of the tournament (after 1958) goes through the final of … June, where it will wait for the winner Scotland – Ukraine.

The game in “Millennium” had a good rhythm, with the guests controlling the pace more and the hosts trying to counteract it. In the 25th minute, an excellent foul by Bale put the hosts ahead and ignited the game.

The Austrians found no answer and played with few players in attack and David Alaba in defense.

The second half started again with Real’s Welshman scoring, this time with a left volley from a diagonal position.

The Welshman got a psychological boost from the second goal and started pushing all over the field. In the end, they were unlucky in an organized Austrian attack after Ben Davis put his foot into play when Marcel Zambizer shot and the ball flew so badly that it ended up in the net.

With a weak 2-1 index, the game picked up a very fast pace with both teams looking for the next goal. The hosts got closer and might not have found it in the end, but they did qualify for the final to be played at the same stadium in June against Scotland or Ukraine.

WALES: Hennessy, Abadou, Rodon, Davis, Roberts, Wilson, Allen, Ramsey, Williams, James (88′ Johnson), Bale (90+3′ Mefham)

AUSTRIA: Lindner, Zewald, Hinteregger, Dragovic, Alaba, Slager (77th Lazaro), Limer (55th Kalajdz), Liner (88th Gregoric), Baumgartner (77th Weimaru, Weimaru)

INFANTINO: “If there was no FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino He commented on World Cup ticket prices, saying they reflected “absolutely insane” demand for next summer’s tournament:

“We have six to seven million tickets and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So every day we have 10 million requests. This shows how strong the World Cup is.”

FIFA has sold just 44 million tickets in almost 100 years of the World Cup. So we were able to sell tickets for the 300th anniversary of the World Cup in two weeks. Just imagine. “This is absolutely crazy.”

Infantino also noted that funds from ticket sales would be reinvested into world football, but did not specify a specific amount:

“The important thing is that the revenue from this goes back into football around the world. If it weren’t for FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world. Football exists thanks to the revenues we get from the World Cup, and we reinvest that into football around the world.”

Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on FIFA to further reduce 2026 World Cup ticket prices.

Secrets of the Real Madrid dressing room: Kroos told how he got along with Vinicius

Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos He talked about his interaction with Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior and other representatives of Brazil within the scope of the “royal club”.

“The Brazilians aroused my sympathy even as a child. While playing for Real Madrid, I developed excellent relationships with Vinicius, Casemiro and Militao.

It is very easy to find a common language with these guys: they know how to enjoy life, and their mentality is significantly different from that of the Germans.

Casemiro and Vinicius and I understood each other perfectly on the field and developed a unique football bond with Vini.

We communicated warmly in daily life. I believe that if there is no contact between players off the field, it is extremely difficult to achieve harmony in the game.

I used Vini’s high-speed bursts effectively and he masterfully directed my passes,” AS Kroos reports.

Let’s remember that Kroos defended the jersey of Real Madrid from 2014 to 2024. During this decade the German midfielder won the Champions League five times.
