Chiellini: ‘We made mistakes from September until now and we paid for them’
Giorgio Chiellini expressed his support for Roberto Mancini, claiming Italy weren’t ruled out because of the North Macedonia defeat but because of mistakes the team had made since September.
Roberto Mancini has left his future open to the Azzurri after Italy’s disappointing ban from the 2022 World Cup.
For his part, the European champions’ leader Giorgio Chiellini wanted to give the Italian coach his full support, stressing that he still had a lot to offer the team.
At the same time, the 37-year-old attributed responsibility for the exclusion to errors since last September and not to the performance of the “squadra azura” against North Macedonia.
“It’s hard to explain but I think we played well again and just didn’t score. I don’t think it can. they do to say that we were brave.
We have made mistakes from September until now and paid for them. I’m proud of my teammates and this group. We are visibly upset, we need to start over.
There is e.ga big void in us now and we hope it can give us the strength to move forward in the future. I hope he stays with this coach who gave so much to the national team. “Let’s hope we can play at the World Cup in four years.” Chiellini to RAI Sport.
