Officially announced that Argentina will host U-20 World Championship Football in 2023 Previously, Indonesia was stripped of its right to host due to the scandal of the Israeli team not being accepted.
The announcement that Argentina will host the 2023 World Cup was made during a presentation by Economy Minister Sergio Massa and Argentine Football Federation (AFA) President Claudio “Chiki” Tapia. Together with the AFA Executive Board and the Minister of Tourism and Sports Matthias Lammens, they held a meeting at the Ministry of Economy.
They reported that FIFA will make an official announcement regarding the appointment of Argentina, the host of the 2023 U-20 World Cup, in the coming hours. The 2023 Junior World Cup will be held in Argentina from 20 May to 11 June.
FIFA will allow the Argentina U-20 team to qualify as the host nation despite not qualifying for the South American U-20 tournament.
The economy minister said Argentina certainly has the necessary resources to host the tournament.
“Given the importance of the upcoming event, it is recommended to instruct the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to sign the documents constituting the necessary state guarantees within the scope of the tender for the organization of the U-20 World Championship among Youth. 2023” reads the decree published in the Official Bulletin.
The decree was signed by President Alberto Fernandez, Cabinet President Agustín Rossi, Lammens and Transport Minister Diego Giuliano.
Previously, FIFA took away the right to host the tournament from Indonesia, as Indonesia did not recognize Israel as a sovereign state and opposed its participation in the tournament.
The Ukrainian national team did not qualify for Euro U-19 and will not be able to defend the U-20 world title won in Poland in 2019.

INFANTINO: “If there was no FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino He commented on World Cup ticket prices, saying they reflected “absolutely insane” demand for next summer’s tournament:
“We have six to seven million tickets and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So every day we have 10 million requests. This shows how strong the World Cup is.”
FIFA has sold just 44 million tickets in almost 100 years of the World Cup. So we were able to sell tickets for the 300th anniversary of the World Cup in two weeks. Just imagine. “This is absolutely crazy.”
Infantino also noted that funds from ticket sales would be reinvested into world football, but did not specify a specific amount:
“The important thing is that the revenue from this goes back into football around the world. If it weren’t for FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world. Football exists thanks to the revenues we get from the World Cup, and we reinvest that into football around the world.”
Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on FIFA to further reduce 2026 World Cup ticket prices.
