World Cup: UAE in playoffs against Australia for a spot in intercontinental playoffs for Qatar
The UAE have qualified for the play-off game against Australia after beating South Korea 1-0 in their hunt for a ‘ticket’ to the 2022 World Cup.
the UAE will be present at the draw that will bring down the curtain for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone.
Rodolfo Aruabarena’s team prevailed 1-0 from South Korea (Paulo Bento’s team had already qualified for the finals of the World Cup) thanks to a goal by Harib Abdallah Suhail and with this victory secured the 3rd place of the 1st group in the 3rd qualifying phase of the AFC.
For 3rd place they also threw Iraq against Lebanon, but only in case of their own positive result and UAE defeat, which didn’t happen (Iraq became 1-1 against Syria, Lebanon lost 0-2 against Iran) .
According to the regulations, the 3rd team of the 1st group gives a draw against the 3rd of the 2nd group, which has been known as Australia for days. The singles match will be held in Doha on June 7th and the winner will advance to the intercontinental playoffs (June 13th or 14th) against Group 5 of the South American qualifier for a spot in Qatar.
