Poland 2-0 Sweden: With Lewandowski and Krichoviak in Qatar
Poland beat Sweden 2-0 in the Khorhov barrage thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski and Piotr Zielinski and qualified for the final stages of the 2022 World Cup.
Poland proved to be the best team on their way, even if they only played in the final, securing their ticket to the 2022 World Cup. 2-0 via Sweden in Horzow sent Robert Lewandowski’s company to Qatar.
The Bayern striker opened the scoring in the second half thanks to a penalty won by AEK’s Gregor Krichoviak and the final score was scored by Piotr Zielinski who ‘sealed’ his country’s ninth appearance at a World Cup final.
The fight was mostly even. Poland had the first good moment in the 11th minute with a header from Lewandowski, who was otherwise “calm” in the first half, mainly due to Marcus Danielson’s cover. Emil Forsberg soon had the Swedes’ best moment, in a game that showed he would be measured on goal.
Ceslav Mihniewicz threw Krychoviak into play at the break and in the 49th minute he conceded a penalty that was successfully executed by Lewandowski. The momentum went to the home side, especially since Dejan Kulusewski gambled away a good moment to equalize.
Robin Olsen became the protagonist of the game with his interventions and Danielson became the deadly hero after losing the ball to Zielinski in the 72nd minute, who came out on all fours and scored to make it 2-0. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s entry had no effect on the Swedes, who will not be making their 13th appearance in the final stages of the institution and have remained in the 2018 qualifiers (where they finished 7th) in the last four tournaments.
Poland: Cesni, Bielik, Glick, Bednarek, Kas, Goralski (46′ Krichoviak), Monter, Berezinski, Zielinski (89′ Buksa), Lewandowski, Simanski
SWEDEN: Olsen, Kraft, Lindelof, Danielson (79′ Ibrahimovic), Augustinson, Kulusewski, K. Olson (80′ Carlson), Karlstrρεm (67′ Swanberg), Forsberg, Queenson (66′)
