Dead man of CAF medical staff in episodic Nigeria – Ghana
One member of CAF medical staff who had been in episodic Nigeria-Ghana died without the causes of death being determined.
The match between Nigeria and Ghana in Abuja secured the visitors’ ‘ticket’ to the final stages of the World Cup, while also being stigmatized by episodes of hosts’ fans storming the field.
The real tragedy, however, was the death of the CAF man who was assigned to work in the match’s anti-doping control under unclear circumstances.
Joseph Kampungo’s death was confirmed by his home country’s football association, Zambia, during talks with its president, Andrew Kamanga “a dedicated and beloved member of the football community”.
However, the Zambian FA said in a statement that the cause of death should not be speculated on: “We realize that it is still too early to comment on the cause of death, but we must await the full report from CAF and FIFA on what happened.”
