Infantino: “Russia World Cup was successful but didn’t create lasting peace”
Gianni Infantino said at the 72nd FIFA Congress, among other things, that the 2018 World Cup in Russia had been a success but had not created the conditions for lasting peace in the wider region.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino also referred to the previous World Cup, which was held in Russia, at the 72nd World Football Association Congress.
The Swiss footballer emphasized that this tournament was a complete success in sporting and cultural terms, that it solved some problems but did not contribute to lasting peace.
“The World Cup in Russia was a great tournament, a great sporting and cultural success. It solved some problems, of course, but did not create a lasting peace.‘ said Infantino, among others.
The international media had criticized FIFA’s initially modest attitude towards Russia, which ended up banning them from international competitions. In fact, Infantino himself is accused of having good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
