WM: From 76 to 830 euros per night in Qatar
To see a World Cup game in Qatar up close, a fan has to dig deep into their pockets, because the prices for an overnight stay start at 76 euros.
A few days ago, the Organizing Committee of the 2022 World Cup presented the accommodation plan for the tourists who are expected in the small Middle East country for the tournament that will be held at the end of the year.
From November 21st to December 18th, 1,200,000 visitors from all over the world are expected during the tournament. Approximately 2,000,000 tickets will be available to the public (out of a total of 3,100,000) and more than 800,000 have found an owner in the first sales phase. In February alone, 17,000,000 applications for a “magic wand” were made.
To travel to the country at this time, a ticket is required, as explained by Omar al-Jaber, Executive Director of Accommodation, on behalf of the organizing committee. Fans must first purchase a ticket and can then book accommodation and obtain a special visa (Haya card) to gain access to the stadiums and fan zones, as well as free travel.
From iron bed to cruise ship
FIFA has closed 130,000 hotels and apartments for the tournament, as have MSC Poesia and MSC World Europa, two cruise ships currently docked in the Port of Doha and operating as hotels.
According to Al Jaber, prices start from 76 euros a night at Barahat al Janub, a housing project built in the town of Al Wakra to accommodate the World Cup’s low-wage workers. With this money, a tourist can book a room with an iron bed, a shower area, but a shared kitchen, however, he is not allowed to drink alcohol as it is forbidden in this area.
From there, prices increase based on region and demand, as Al Jaber explained, warning that the earlier you book your stay, the cheaper the prices.
The options for a cabin of the 4,000 total on the two cruise ships are relatively inexpensive, with prices starting at €160 and reaching double that for some suites.
The most expensive accommodation options are currently the luxury villas near Doha “Al Khalifa”, which reach up to 830 euros per night.

INFANTINO: “If there was no FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino He commented on World Cup ticket prices, saying they reflected “absolutely insane” demand for next summer’s tournament:
“We have six to seven million tickets and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So every day we have 10 million requests. This shows how strong the World Cup is.”
FIFA has sold just 44 million tickets in almost 100 years of the World Cup. So we were able to sell tickets for the 300th anniversary of the World Cup in two weeks. Just imagine. “This is absolutely crazy.”
Infantino also noted that funds from ticket sales would be reinvested into world football, but did not specify a specific amount:
“The important thing is that the revenue from this goes back into football around the world. If it weren’t for FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries of the world. Football exists thanks to the revenues we get from the World Cup, and we reinvest that into football around the world.”
Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on FIFA to further reduce 2026 World Cup ticket prices.
