CAS announced on Tuesday (04 May) that Russia was withdrawing its objection to the national team being excluded from the World Cup playoffs because of the war in Ukraine.

As CAS announced on Tuesday (April 5), Russia withdrew its appeal against FIFA on March 30 over the decision to exclude it from the World Cup playoffs.

Recall that the Supreme Sports Court justified FIFA and Uefa in a dispute with the Russian Football Union over its exclusion National Russia and the country’s clubs from international events invasion of Ukraine.

Specifically, the federal government had raised two objections. The first against UEFA’s decision to ban their teams from European competitions, the second against FIFA banning their teams from world competitions.

However, he withdrew his objection to FIFA, but insisted on it to the European association. The Russians are accepting that the national team will be excluded from the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar, and that not all national teams in the country can take part in international competitions.
