World Cup: Argentina in CAS against FIFA for not playing Brazil in Oceania
Argentina is preparing an appeal to the CAS not to play the derby with Brazil for the World Cup qualifiers, which was suspended last September, as FIFA wants to play it in Oceania in June!
A strange case is being heard at CAS concerning the conduct of the match between Brazil and Argentina for the South American zone in qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, which may be held in… Oceania.
Madrid radio station Cadena SER quoted FIFA sources as saying that both the world governing body and the Brazilian federation want the (goalless) derby between the two teams that have already qualified for Qatar to be held in June in Qatar A or New Zealand is discharged.
The Argentina national team will be in Europe for friendlies at this time and does not want to change their schedule and consequently tries to lead through the CAS not to play the game.
The game concerns the 1st round of the South American qualifying group which, although it started normally, was interrupted in the first minutes after the Brazilian Health Committee entered the People’s Stadium because of problems with the vaccination cards of four Argentine players.
