World Cup
Absolute Argentina in World Cup qualification, hell for Brazil
Only first is Argentina in the Latin American zone, as it beat Paraguay while Brazil stayed at home to Venezuela.
World champions Argentina successfully continued their fight for the title and beat Paraguay 1-0 thanks to Nicolas Otamendi’s goal.
This left Lionel Scaloni’s team alone at the top of the World Cup qualification table in the Latin American zone. And that’s because Brazil, their previous roommates, drew 1-1 at home against Venezuela.
Magalias gave the Seleção the lead in the 50th minute, but they suffered a setback in the 85th minute when Edouard Bello gave Venezuela the point.
From then on, the qualifying places will be fought from third to seventh place, with the teams separated by two points.
It is worth remembering that with the new World Cup system (which includes more teams), six Latin American teams will qualify directly for the World Cup finals and the seventh team will claim its place through the Confederation playoffs.
The results of the competition:
- Argentina – Paraguay 1-0
- Brazil – Venezuela 1:1
- Chile – Peru 2-0
- Bolivia – Ecuador 1-2
- Colombia – Uruguay 2-2
