The Maradona shirt from the historic match between Argentina and England has been auctioned
The shirt of one of the most famous matches Diego Maradona took part in, that of Argentina and England, was auctioned on Holy Wednesday, starting at 4 million pounds.
Diego Maradona died in 2020, but his symbolism remains priceless, as confirmed by auction house Sotheby’s, which on Wednesday (20/4) auctioned off one of his shirts, the most famous of all time.
The one she wore as Argentina’s player in the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals where he scored the masterpiece goal where he passed half of England’s national team but also the famous goal with his hand when Steve Hodge had it in his possession and finally made the decision to sell this rare football heirloom via this particular international house.
The auction, which will be held electronically, began on Holy Wednesday (April 20) and will last until May 4, with the sale price being determined starts at 000 4,000,000 (about €5,000,000) and is estimated at 000 6,000,000.
If something like that happens, then will break the world record belonging to a 1928-1930 baseball jersey, one of the top players in baseball history, sold for £4,440,000 in June 2019.
The Argentina national team’s jerseys in this game were not the authentic ones that had been sourced for the event. Complaints from players about the heat in Mexico City combined with the look of the cotton raising the temperature even further prompted a janitor to buy thinner jerseys from a store in the country.
Subsequently, he sewed on the Argentinian badges and ironed the numbers, making a look that now costs millions.
