Saudi Arabia also wants the Women’s World Cup in 2035
Saudi Arabia looks set to be the heartbeat of world football for two years in a row as the Middle Eastern country has expressed its desire to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup after the 2034 Men’s World Cup.
On October 4, 2023, Saudi Arabia submitted an official application to host the 2034 World Cup, the country’s football association announced.
With the Middle Eastern nation the undisputed favorite to host the tournament, the Monica Staabtechnical director of the Saudi women’s national team, wanted to take advantage of the special condition and express the country’s desire to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup.
“I believe that the future of women’s football in Saudi Arabia is bright. I told the sports officials that it takes time to get to the World Cup. I know they want to host the men’s World Cup. Why not host the Women’s World Cup in 2035? Now we are preparing a team that will at least be competitive at this level” she said on the sidelines of her speech at an international forum held in London last week.
If the sports facilities and know-how are there, especially if Saudi Arabia is hosting Men’s World Cup 2034the Middle Eastern country will be in a strong position to host it too Women’s World Cup 2035.
The oxymoron of the whole matter is that it concerns the women’s national team of Saudi Arabia has yet to take part in a major event as the division in question was not founded until 2022.
