36-year-old Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle forward Marcelo Moreno announced his retirement from his international career.

The next two matches against Peru (November 16) and Uruguay (November 22) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers will be the last matches for the experienced striker wearing the Bolivia national team jersey.

“I had to make this decision with my family, with my friends, and I think I have completed this cycle with the Bolivian football team. “These two matches will be the last matches in which I can represent my country and my team,” Moreno said.

Marcelo Moreno is the player who scored the most goals in the history of the Bolivian national team (31 goals) and also holds the record for the number of matches played by the team (106).

From 2008 to 2012, the Bolivian was under contract with Shakhtar, with whom he became the Ukrainian champion, won the UEFA Cup and twice lifted the Ukrainian Cup over his head.

Let us remind you that the Bolivia national team appointed Antonio Carlos Zago, Mircea Lucescu’s former assistant at Shakhtar, as a new coach on October 31.
