World Cup
VIDEO. Fans were beaten with batons in the stands before the Brazil-Argentina match
In the next qualifying match of the 2026 World Cup, the Brazilian team lost to Argentina (0:1), but the match was remembered more for the incident in the stands.
Even before the start of the match, during the anthems, fans of the two teams clashed in the stands, tearing chairs and throwing them at each other, while local police calmed the most violent ones with batons.
Brazilian captain Marquinhos and Argentina national team players tried to intervene but failed. One of the most active was Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper of the Argentina national team, who tried to get to the podium himself.
They tried to start the match before the end of the showdown in the stands, but Lionel Messi showed with a gesture that his team would not start and took his teammates off the field.
As a result, the police managed to locate the Argentinian fans, who for some reason had not previously been removed from the Brazilian fans.
The Argentina national team took the field anyway and the match started in the 27th minute, but emotions spread across the football field. For example, Messi grabbed Rodrigo by the neck and said something loudly to him. It was later learned that the Brazilian player called his opponents “pissers”, and Lionel said that they were “not pissers, but world champions”.
