Infantino on Brazil-Argentina: “There is no place for violence in football, on and off the pitch”
Gianni Infantino took a stand after the nasty texts in connection with the fight between Brazil and Argentina in the “Maracana” and emphasized in his post on Instagram that violence has no place in football.
The “Maracana” experienced great moments on the field in the early hours of Tuesday (22/11) when Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 and climbed to the top of the group in the qualifying phase of the Latin American zone, but in the chaos reigned, with scuffles between police and fans marring the great game.
In fact, the images were so violent and ugly that Gianni Infantino quickly released them publicly. The FIFA President sent a clear message against violence with a post on his Instagram account:
“There is no place for violence in football, either on or off the pitch. Events such as those that took place during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Argentina at the Maracana Stadium have no place in our sport or in our society.”
Without exaggeration, all footballers, fans, officials and match officials should remember to enjoy football and I call on the relevant authorities to ensure that this is respected at all levels.” was his signature comment.
