Otamendi: “Guardiola called me and asked how we won the World Cup after the 2-2 draw against France”
Argentina and France went head-to-head in the World Cup final, with the Albiceleste being crowned champions and Pep Guardiola calling Nicolas Otamendi to ask how they fared after the French equalised.
In what many consider to be the best final in the history of the World Cup on December 12, 2022, Argentina defeated France on penalties (4:2, 3:3 in regular time) and took the “scepter”.
The Albiceleste led 2-0, but Kylian Mbappe equalized the game with two goals in two minutes, giving the fans a great spectacle.
Nicolas Otamendi admitted that things were difficult for Argentina after the draw and revealed that Pep Guardiola called him to congratulate him but also asked him about the mentality that got them to the World Cup.
“After the 2-0 win and the 2-2 draw, it was difficult to maintain the result. Pep Guardiola called me after the World Cup to congratulate me and asked me: ‘How we managed to have the mentality to win the World Cup while…’ we were 2-0 up and down 2-0. 2 draws”, The 35-year-old Benfica defender told Star+.
