World Cup: Chile asks FIFA to ban Ecuador over use of players with fake dates
Chile has appealed to FIFA, claiming Ecuador fielded a player who failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and effectively demanding a ticket to Qatar.
His presence is in jeopardy Ecuador in the final stages of the 2022 World Cup after an appeal by his football association Chile at FIFA.
The Chileans claim that the Ecuador national team used a footballer who is not eligible to participate as he was not born in Ecuador and has a different date of birth.
That’s what the complaint says Byron Castillo from Ecuador has Barcelona as his place of birth in Colombia and the actual date of birth according to him is July 25, 1995 and not November 10, 1998.
Chile has asked FIFA to investigate the matter “countless evidence” and “Information and Documents” according to an announcement.
The 23-year-old right-back made eight appearances in qualifying, including two games against Chile, a 0-0 win over Quito and Ecuador’s 2-0 win over Santiago de Chile.
In September 2016, FIFA had penalized Bolivia for a similar reason, giving Peru two wins on paper. In this case, if it sees an offense and does the same, Ecuador will lose its place in Qatar as Chile will overtake them in the qualifying standings.
