The streaming service Netflix is available at home through the company Goalhanger, one of the co-founders of which is the legendary English footballer and TV presenter Gary Lineker, who is producing podcasts in time for the 2026 World Cup, reports The Times.
The value of the contract is estimated at around £14 million, equivalent to £1.6 million for the duration of the tournament. The main product of the show will be the show The Rest Is Football, which will continue to be part of the World Cup.
Together with Lineker, Alan Shearer and Mike Richards share the same fate in the podcast. Part of the money will also be used directly to pay the fees requested by the program’s guests.
It appears that Gary Lineker earned a salary of £1.35 million while working at the BBC. At the same time, Lineker’s company made a profit of £3.1 million in 2024, according to financial data published by the Companies House of Great Britain.
