US government’s new travel restrictions may upset national team fans Senegal And Ivory Coast visit 2026 fifa world cup.
President Donald Trump signed a proclamation suspending entry into the United States of citizens of these countries on both immigrant, tourist and business visas. Similar measures were previously implemented against Iran and Haiti.
The World Championships will be held in the summer of 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The new rules make exceptions for players, coaches and immediate family members of tournament participants, but fans are excluded.
Senegal will face France, Norway and the winner of the play-offs in Group I. The team is scheduled to have two games in the United States and one in Toronto, giving fans a chance to attend at least one game in Canada. Ivory Coast will compete in Group E and play their matches in both the USA and Toronto.
The White House explained the decision due to the high rates of overstaying of tourist and student visas by citizens of these countries. The statement also stated that exceptions apply to permanent residents of the United States, valid visa holders, diplomats and athletes, as well as persons whose entry is in the national interest of the country.
The Athletic previously reported that there were no special exceptions for fans. The US administration does not exclude the possibility of imposing additional restrictions, emphasizing that security is the first priority in preparations for the World Cup.
