What should Messi do? Argentina national team may be suspended from the World Cup
Argentina national team The president of the association, Claudio Tapia, may be suspended from the 2026 World Cup due to the investigation opened against him. This was reported by La Nacion and Marca.
Law enforcement is investigating the illegal enrichment of an Argentinian civil servant. Federal Judge Daniel Rafekas authorized a search of the apartment complex in Pilar where the property allegedly purchased by Tapia was located.
FIFA is monitoring the situation closely and has given the Argentine judiciary time to prove or disprove the union’s president’s corruption. If Tapia is proven guilty, the South American team could be deprived of the World Cup.
FIFA has already stated that it will not tolerate any political interference and may impose the toughest sanctions possible.
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has refused to comment on the scandal, but the 2026 Finalissima match against Spain in March is under threat of being canceled due to the investigation.
