INFANTINO: “Football cannot stop war, but it can demand peace”
FIFA President Gianni Infantino At the 46th Congress of the Union of European Football Associations, he talked about the role of football in resolving the issues of war and peace.
“Football, of course, gives us pleasure and emotion, which is its main task. But there are problems that football unfortunately cannot solve. These are the problems that European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas and Austrian Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler have mentioned before. Football cannot stop the war! Now we are in Europe and we are facing a military conflict that we have not known for a long time. When I became FIFA president, I could not have imagined that the situation in the world would be this sad.
Football cannot stop war, but it can contribute, help, demand peace. I’m doing it here as I did at the last FIFA Congress. We must make every effort for peace. to return to Ukraine. We must help the victims of this war,” said Infantino.
